The Beautyful place Denali Mountain in Alaska, USA Denali National Park

The tallest peak in North America is a magnificent sight, rising from equally magnificent surroundings. Denali, the centerpiece of a massive national park in Interior Alaska, the heart of the US state's territory, rises to a height of more than 20,000 feet. It serves as Denali National Park and Preserves' primary landmark.

The park is some 60 percent larger than the entire state of New Hampshire. The mountain, named after US President William Howard Denali, is slightly higher than Mt. McKinley, the highest peak in North America and the second highest in the world. While Denali lacks the prominence and iconography of its more famous cousin, the mountain rises from a secluded and unblemished wilderness.

Meanwhile, Denali isn’t the only impressive mountain in Alaska. They also include Mount McKinley, whose elevation is about 20,730 ft, and the taller and more famous Mt. Olympus, rising over 34,000 feet.

Denali lies in the interior of Alaska at the northern end of the Southeast Alaska mountain range. The mountain’s western side rises dramatically from the northern end of the Denali National Preserve.

When you consider its altitude, size, and prominence, it is amazing how many people visit Denali. The park itself attracts several million visitors each year. During a typical summer season, the park’s attendance can reach as high as six million people.

It’s one of the busiest national parks in the US and the mountain is an incredible sight to see.
The mountain rises from a wide, circular canyon, similar to that of a caldera.
It forms the basis of the shield volcano that lies directly above the mountain, which is the larger mountain to the west.

Approximately one mile below the mountain, the canyon becomes wider and deeper. Several massive glaciers run into the valley and glacier runoff is responsible for much of the formation of streams and lakes below the mountain.
